As one of the first authorized subject of Master's and Doctor's degree in China, the Department of Pathology was founded in 1939 and became a provincial key discipline in 1995, the key subject of the Ministry of Health in 1998, one of the first exquisite courses in 2001, included in the Key Laboratory construction plan of the Ministry of Education in 2002, the only Key Laboratory under the Ministry of Education in this research field in 2003. With development and construction, our laboratory has formed unique research areas including study on stem cells and tissue engineering, tumor pathobiology and research on metabolic diseases.

The pathology department’s educational team was awarded the National Team for Teaching Excellence. The pathology course conducted by the department was approved as the national excellent courses in 2006, became the national level top quality resource sharing course and the national level top quality open video course in 2012 and the first national level top quality open online course (the gold standard online course) in 2017. Our team was the editor-in-chief for the sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth editions of National Textbook of Pathology.

There are 29 researchers in our research department, 20 of them are professors and associate professors, 9 are Ph.D. supervisors. Professor Li Yulin, the academic leader of the department is a national eminent teacher and won the Outstanding Contribution Award of China Higher Medical Education in 2014.

The laboratory is about 2000 square meters in size, including experimental classroom, teaching preparation room, specimen preparation room, specimen storage room, research room, archival materials and library management room, multi-function room, etc. It is a large-scale comprehensive department which integrates teaching, scientific research and international collaboration projects.

 The motto of our department is “Cultivate people through morality and continue to innovate and develop”. With the of aim to serve the nation and to meet social demand, we shall build a first-class pathology discipline in China based on talent training and we are driven by scientific creation and innovation.
